Opportunities Overview

GROWTH Alberta is committed to diversifying our regional economy. By researching and promoting new business opportunities, we aim to build stability and sustainability in the communities we serve.

Agricultural Diversification

FarmMeetingGROWTH Alberta has identified a number of opportunities to diversify our region’s large and productive agricultural base. Many small-scale agricultural operators in the region have the potential to create new lines of income by expanding their value-adding activities and increasing their participation in the marketplace.

GROWTH Alberta is currently focused on promoting several means of agricultural diversification:

  • Regional cuisine features
  • Farmers’ markets
  • Farm-direct purchases
  • On-farm/ranch activities and agri-tourism

Alternative Energy

DieselTrailerAs a highly productive agricultural region with diverse energy needs, GROWTH Alberta also recognizes significant potential in adopting new alternate energy technologies and creating a regional alternate energy industry. GROWTH Alberta is working to increase regional awareness of and confidence in alternate energy opportunities; increase regional capacity to pursue alternate energy opportunities; and increase communication and peer support amongst persons with an interest in alternate energy.

As part of these aims, GROWTH Alberta has assembled basic information on several alternate energy topics representing significant opportunity for the region:

  • Solar energy
  • Wind energy
  • Geothermal energy
  • Household energy efficiency
  • Biofuels
